The Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson focuses on contemporary art, seeking to inspire new ways of thinking through exhibitions and interpretation. Founded by artists, it is Tucson’s only museum devoted exclusively to contemporary art from both local and global sources. It emphasizes thinking globally while acting locally and engages with the ethics and aesthetics of contemporary life. MOCA Tucson offers a full slate of exhibitions, education activities, and an artist-in-residence program. Housed in a repurposed firehouse in Downtown Tucson, the museum presents rotating exhibitions by local, national, and international artists that aim to spur dialogue and foster empathy. Now in its 20th year, MOCA Tucson serves as an incubator and connector for contemporary art across the Southwest, and in 2020 appointed Laura Copelin as interim executive director and chief curator.
