The Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center is a grassroots nonprofit established in 1988 that works to protect and restore the environmental and cultural values of Mount Shasta and its surrounding bioregion. The area is noted for its role as a major source of pure waters feeding the Sacramento Valley, as well as for its internationally recognized sanctuaries, biodiversity, and sacred sites significant to Native American cultures. The organization aims to influence decision-making processes to ensure outcomes align with nature-centered principles, bringing this perspective into forums where policy and planning decisions are made. In 2025, the center participated in Mount Shasta's Earth Day Festival, illustrating its ongoing engagement with community and environmental stewardship. Historically, it established the Honor Its Mountain Environment program in 1997 through an agreement with the U.S. Forest Service to organize a volunteer effort focused on cleanup, restoration, and visitor education in order to keep the Mountain accessible.
