The Montgomery County Food Council is an independent nonprofit based in Bethesda, Maryland, formed and guided by community members and representatives from local government, businesses, nonprofits, and educational institutions to represent the county’s food system. Its mission is to unite diverse stakeholders in a public-private partnership to improve environmental, economic, social, and nutritional health through a robust local and sustainable food system.

The council engages in policy and process changes at both urban and rural levels and coordinates producers, retailers, consumers, and educators to address the broad issues surrounding food and its sourcing in Montgomery County. It seeks to involve residents and institutions through job opportunities, volunteer projects, and purchasing practices, while educating the community about the entire food cycle and its social, environmental, and economic impacts. In January 2025, the council announced a partnership with Montgomery County Green Bank to launch a pilot program aimed at promoting local food production and strengthening the regional food system.
