MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering, and Science (MITES), formerly the OEOP, is a program within MIT focused on engaging highly motivated students in grades 7 through 12 from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. It provides hands-on STEM experiences designed to build confidence, foster a lifelong sense of community, and establish a challenging foundation in science and engineering. All programs are offered at no cost to participants or their families, and MITES serves about 300 students annually, with a majority coming from low socio-economic backgrounds and underrepresented minority groups. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, MITES aligns with MIT's mission to advance equity and access in STEM and helps students develop skills and belonging that support pursuing science and engineering at top universities. Graduates often pursue leadership roles in STEM fields, reflecting the program's focus on turning participation into long-term engagement with science and technology.
