The MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) is MIT’s largest research lab and a leading center for information technology research. It has helped shape the computer revolution by contributing to foundational technologies that underpin ARPANET, the Internet, and the World Wide Web. The lab focuses on designing the architecture and pursuing practical applications of information technology to yield long-term improvements in how people live and work. Alumni and current members have founded more than 100 companies, including iRobot, Akamai, RSA Data Security, and 3Com. CSAIL hosts a range of initiatives and programs, including collaborations related to web standards, cybersecurity, big data, and information policy, along with the CSAIL Alliances program that connects industry and government with researchers and students. The lab is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on the MIT campus, serving an academic, industry, and public sector community.
