The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) is a United Nations-backed, non-profit organization based in Geneva that seeks to expand access to life-saving medicines for low- and middle-income countries. It achieves this by convening a broad network of partners—civil society, governments, international organizations, industry, patient groups and others—to identify priority medicines, secure licenses, and pool intellectual property to support generic manufacturing and the development of new formulations. Through these licensing arrangements and IP pooling, MPP has facilitated access to a diverse range of therapies across HIV, hepatitis C, tuberculosis, cancer, long-acting treatments, and COVID-19 products and technologies.

Based in Geneva, MPP is a mid-sized nonprofit that collaborates with partners worldwide to advance affordable access to essential medicines. A recent development in 2026 involved Roche signing a voluntary license with MPP to make baloxavir marboxil, an influenza antiviral, more accessible under the pool’s approach.
