PT Media Televisi Indonesia, known as Metro TV, is a broadcaster based in Kebon Jeruk, Jakarta, operating in media production and distribution. It obtained its broadcasting license in October 1999 and launched a trial service in November 2000 across seven cities, with 24-hour programming beginning in April 2001. Metro TV is a subsidiary of the Media Group, led by Surya Paloh, who also publishes Media Indonesia, Indonesia's third-largest national newspaper. Initially launching with a small staff, the company later developed a sizeable workforce concentrated in newsroom and production activities. It expanded its programming beyond news to include lifestyle and other entertainment programming, supported by more sophisticated production capabilities. The early period involved building infrastructure and teams within a compressed nine-month window, an effort that established a stable operating foundation.
