The Mattole Restoration Council is a long-standing, community-led nonprofit in the environmental services sector based in Petrolia, California. Founded in 1983, its primary mission is to understand, restore, and conserve the ecosystems of the Mattole River watershed, with particular attention to threatened coho and Chinook salmon and steelhead. Operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, it collaborates with hundreds of private landowners, resource management agencies, and other local conservation and education organizations to support the Mattole Watershed within the King Range Alliance. The council pursues a range of programs that engage with the local environment and community to maintain habitat health and productivity. It collaborates with Mattole Salmon Group, Sanctuary Forest, and Friends of the Lost Coast as part of the King Range Alliance, and recent coverage notes a June 2026 partnership involving Lost Coast and Mattole Salmon Group that culminated in a King Range Alliance-related 2026 Innovation Award.
