The Maryland State Boychoir is a Baltimore-based ensemble that offers talented boys the opportunity to sing at a professional level while building self-esteem, discipline, and character. The choir numbers around 150 choristers aged 7 to 20 who come from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds, and it performs locally, nationally, and internationally. As a small nonprofit in the field of music, it functions as a shared artistic platform for boys from different communities to come together through singing. The organization emphasizes inclusive participation across backgrounds. Founded in 1987 by Frank Cimino, the choir is led by Artistic Director Stephen Holmes, who conducts and teaches, with Joseph Shortall serving as Assistant Director. It has been designated by Maryland Governor William Donald Schaefer as Maryland's Official Goodwill Ambassadors, reflecting its role in representing the state through musical performance.
