The Maine Tourism Association is a private nonprofit membership organization dedicated to promoting travel to Maine for both business and leisure. Founded in 1922 as the Maine Publicity Bureau, the group was created to operate a bureau disseminating information about Maine's business interests, and it was chartered by the state in 1938 to continue promoting tourism; the name was changed to Maine Tourism Association in 1999. It is based in Hallowell, Maine, and supports a network of more than 1,600 member businesses across the state. The association operates within the travel arrangements industry as a collaborative entity that mobilizes leadership and partnerships with state organizations to broaden visitation and generate economic opportunities for its members. In 2025 it was recognized with a Leadership and Growth Award for its Tourism for ME program, reflecting its ongoing contribution to Maine's tourism economy.
