At Lauritzen Gardens, we believe in thoughtful, ecologically-minded practices and the curation of accessible, educational, and inspirational experiences that enhance lives. A 100-acre public garden, Lauritzen Gardens exemplifies visionary efforts to provide a quiet, tranquil and serene setting for the study, preservation, and pure enjoyment of some of the region’s most precious resources and flora. Beginning with a grassroots effort to build a garden for the Omaha community, the garden has quickly become a regional destination and has substantiated its position as a major Omaha-area attraction. In addition to horticultural displays that inspire, events that entertain and educational programs that cultivate minds of all ages, the garden works to conserve the endangered plants of the Great Plains and to advance the understanding and stewardship of the region’s biological diversity. Our work focuses on: 100 Acres of Horticulture Display: Curating a plant collection that highlights the beauty and diversity of Nebraska’s native plants, while also featuring unique, non-native species not commonly seen outside of a public garden setting. Conservation Efforts Across the Great Plains: Saving endangered and imperiled plants of the Great Plains and beyond through scientific research, field work, seed banking, and the preservation of conservation collections. Protecting Biodiversity: Practicing and promoting thoughtful, ecologically-minded horticulture practices for the benefit of the landscape and the life that calls the garden home. Nature-based Education: Offering a year-round schedule of tours, programs and workshops that explore, explain, and celebrate the world of plants. Fostering a Sustainable Relationship Between People and Nature: Creating accessible, educational, and inspirational experiences that enhance lives, cultivate curiosity, and build connections with the natural world.
