The core purpose of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra is to enrich, entertain and educate the South Central Pennsylvania Community through unique live musical performances and to provide community engagement opportunities for students of all ages. Now in its 69th season, the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra presents 6 Classic Series concerts, three popular music concerts, the “Sounds of the Season” holiday concert, a New Year's Celebration, and special event, The Godfather LIVE. The Symphony’s annual Composer’s Award, established in 1959, is the oldest award of its kind in the US. It is presented to a living American composer who is making a particularly significant contribution in the field of symphonic music. Part of the Symphony’s mission statement is also fulfilled through its nationally recognized Sound Discovery Community Engagement Programs whose purpose is to engage, build, and strengthen our community through imaginative and unique musical experiences. Our comprehensive and inclusive approach to enriching and strengthening the local community has enabled us to impact over 8,500 students annually in the private, public and home-school sectors of education. These programs offer a broad array of opportunities for students in third grade through college and adult, for the serious instrumental student as well as the classical music lover and novice, with a special focus on the disadvantaged and underserved populations.
