Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences is a mid-sized higher education institution based in Kotka, in the Kymenlaakso region of Finland. After merging with Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences in early 2017, the combined entity operates as part of the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, known as Xamk. Recent activity shows a focus on international and industry collaboration, including a partnership with Nodeon and the City of Kotka to make the Kotka urban transport network safer and more sustainable. Xamk has expanded its practical offerings with initiatives such as a dedicated 5G software app development space and ongoing applied research projects, including work on textile waste fibre pretreatment. These efforts reflect the institution's emphasis on applying research to regional challenges through partnerships with industry and local government.
