The Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks (KDWP) is a cabinet-level government agency in Kansas responsible for managing the state's fish, wildlife, and outdoor recreation resources. Its mission includes conserving and enhancing natural heritage, wildlife, and habitats for future generations, providing opportunities to use and enjoy natural resources in a conservation-focused manner, informing the public about Kansas’ natural resources, and promoting visitation to support tourism and related spending. KDWP operates through five divisions—Executive Services, Administrative Services, Fisheries and Wildlife, Law Enforcement, and Parks—and employs approximately 460 full-time staff. A secretary appointed by the Governor leads KDWP, and a seven-member bipartisan commission, also appointed by the Governor, advises the secretary and approves regulations related to outdoor recreation and fish and wildlife resources. KDWP participates in intergovernmental partnerships, including a recent agreement with the Oregon State Marine Board to support joint park and outdoor recreation activities.
