Kandelia is an education administration organization based in Seattle, Washington, that originated from efforts to support Vietnamese immigrants and refugees in the 1970s. The group focuses on removing barriers to opportunity for immigrant and refugee communities, emphasizing the preservation of values, heritage, and ethnicity while addressing systemic inequities that affect access to education and family wellbeing. Serving a niche in the education sector, it delivers programs and tools aimed at youth development, education, and holistic family support to help these communities flourish. The organization positions itself as a resource for immigrant and refugee families seeking pathways to opportunity without having to compromise their identities, operating from its Seattle location with a small team. A recent development highlights its ongoing evolution from its earlier focus on short-term resettlement needs to broader, long-term support for diverse immigrant and refugee populations.
