The Johnstown Housing Authority is a nonprofit municipal corporation based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, formed under the U.S. Housing Act of 1937. Its mission is to provide decent, safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for qualified individuals, with a broader aim to improve residents’ quality of life through programs that promote self-sufficiency and greater involvement in the community. The organization administers public housing across Cambria County, operating eleven complexes that total 1,504 units, with separate complexes for low-income families and for the elderly, disabled, or handicapped. In addition, it runs a Housing Choice Voucher program (Section 8) that provides rental subsidies to households, enabling them to secure housing in the private market with participating landlords. The authority is governed by a board of directors that sets policy and budgets and guides the executive staff. A recent development noted is a collaboration with the Cambria County Backpack Project to distribute food to the community.
