The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security is a public policy office focused on protecting health from epidemics and disasters and promoting community resilience, based in Baltimore, Maryland. It conducts independent research and analysis and communicates findings to inform decision makers across health, science, law, social sciences, economics, and national security, and works to connect international communities of health and science experts, industry representatives, and government officials to strengthen collective health security. The Center studies how scientific and technological innovations can strengthen health security and advances policies and practices to address challenges such as emerging infectious diseases, pandemic risk, major natural disasters, vulnerable infrastructure, outbreaks of foodborne illness, and potential biological, chemical, or nuclear accidents or intentional threats. It has between 51 and 200 employees and maintains a website as a platform for its activities. In recent years it has launched initiatives including Crisis Averted: The Hidden Science of Fighting Outbreaks; the Practical Playbook for addressing health misinformation; the Gene Synthesis Screening Information Hub; and a new website, and has partnered with Georgetown University and with the World Health Organization on risk assessment tools and related manuals.
