The Italian American Museum of Los Angeles operates from the historic Italian Hall in Los Angeles, a building constructed in 1908 to serve as a gathering place for the local Italian community and today the oldest remaining structure of the city's Italian enclave, listed on the National Register. Opened in 2016, IAMLA is jointly operated by the Historic Italian Hall Foundation and the City of Los Angeles, and it centers on the Southern California Italian American experience as a lens on regional and diasporic history. The museum's permanent exhibition spans about 5,000 square feet and comprises seven color-coded sections arranged chronologically and thematically, with documentary-style videos projected on large smart glass panels and tablet-based content linked to each artifact case. Admission is free, with donations encouraged, and IAMLA offers cultural and educational programming, temporary exhibitions, and events. Content from the permanent exhibition is also accessible online via Google Cultural Institute, and the on-site exhibits include tablets attached to artifact cases that provide additional information.
