The International Downtown Association is a nonprofit association serving urban place professionals who manage and activate city center districts. Its members act as downtown champions that bridge public and private sectors to bring urban cores to life. The organization represents more than 2,500 place management organizations employing about 100,000 people across North America, with growing reach around the world, and offers tools, knowledge, and strategies to foster healthy, dynamic centers that support community well-being. Based in Washington, DC, the nonprofit serves a global audience of city centers and downtown districts. It participates in international events and forums to share knowledge and advance practice; for example, in May 2026 its team attended the Place Matters conference in Madison, Wisconsin.
