The Institute of Politics at the Harvard Kennedy School, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, was established in 1966 as a memorial to President Kennedy. It focuses on engaging students—particularly undergraduates—with scholars, politicians, activists, and policymakers, and aims to inspire public-service careers. 

The IOP offers fifteen programs and a range of opportunities for practical experience, including activities such as teaching elementary school students and hosting events with prominent speakers. It provides more than 100 paid public service internships worldwide and organizes conferences for new members of Congress and newly elected mayors, along with post-election analyses by campaign managers and strategists. Through these activities, the Institute aims to foster hands-on experience and encourage critical, creative approaches to pursuing public service.
