Based in Washington, DC, the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure focuses on civil infrastructure and works to advance sustainability and resilience through the Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Framework. The framework supports education, training, and project verification, guiding practitioners and projects toward better outcomes. It is deployed across North America and internationally and is applicable to a wide range of civil infrastructures, including water, transportation, energy, waste, and land or environmental work. ISI was founded in 2010 by the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Council of Engineering Companies, and the American Public Works Association. It partnered with Harvard University's Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure to develop Envision. In 2025, the organization launched the second round of its Technical Assistance Program to help infrastructure owners in smaller or economically distressed communities access resources for guiding more sustainable projects.
