The Illinois Bar Foundation is a Chicago-based nonprofit operating in the legal services sector. Founded nearly 75 years ago by a small group of leaders, it began by assisting Illinois Bar members who could no longer provide for themselves due to age or infirmity. Since then, the foundation has broadened its mission to promote meaningful access to the justice system for people with limited means and to support lawyers who can no longer sustain themselves due to incapacity. It aims to be a statewide leader in advancing equal justice, focusing on four core objectives: increasing access to legal aid for low-income residents, encouraging pro bono service, educating Illinois residents about their rights and responsibilities, and offering assistance to colleagues in need. Based in Chicago, Illinois, the foundation remains embedded in the state's legal community. In recent activity, it hosted its 26th Annual Black Tie Gala in October 2025 at The Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago, underscoring ongoing engagement with the profession and supporters.
