Homex is a vertically integrated developer in Mexico focused on social housing and mid-income housing. It was founded in 1989 in Culiacán, Sinaloa, and began with commercial-area development before expanding to the design, construction, and sale of housing. By the end of 2008, the company operated in 32 cities across 20 states, illustrating a broad geographic footprint, and it maintains a leading presence in the four major markets: the Mexico City metropolitan area, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Tijuana. 
It is described as the largest housing developer by the number of homes sold, reflecting its scale across urban and peri-urban segments. In March 2017, Homex Development Corp agreed to settle SEC accounting fraud charges, without admitting or denying the allegations.
