Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in New York City. The organization runs six family residences designed to offer more than a place to sleep by providing a range of onsite programs that support residents during their stay. Many of these programs are also accessible to people living in nearby communities, extending assistance beyond the shelter walls. On an average day, about 720 families with 780 children reside in six residences across the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Based in New York City, it functions within the individual and family services sector as a mid-sized nonprofit. The aim is to create a lasting positive impact that helps families thrive after they leave the shelters.
