HiveBio Community Lab operates as a 501(c)(3) biology lab open to the public in Seattle, providing members access to a BSL-1 facility and equipment in exchange for dues. Members retain their own intellectual property rights, and the organization complements hands-on research with regular classes covering molecular biology, neuroscience, chemistry, genetics, and related fields. The lab serves individuals who want to pursue their own research and experiments, as well as a broader community interested in learning and applying life science concepts. In addition to its community lab, HiveBio runs student outreach programs to promote science education in local schools, supported in part by a grant from the Nation Science Foundation. HiveBio sits within the biotechnology research landscape as a community biology lab that combines hands-on access, education, and outreach in the Seattle region.
