Hindman Settlement School is a small nonprofit in Hindman, Kentucky, founded in 1902 by May Stone and Katherine Pettit. It was the first rural social settlement school in America and served as a model for education, health care, and social services, contributing to regional progress and preserving Appalachian heritage. The school's mission is to provide education and service opportunities for people of the mountains while honoring their heritage.

Its programs span education for children with dyslexia and learning differences, training for families and teachers, Appalachian literature and folk arts workshops, folk arts programming for Knott County and beyond, Grow Appalachia community service to grow healthy food, a craft shop and museum for local artisans, and conference and retreat facilities. Since 2020, the school has partnered with AmeriCorps and state service programs to address childhood literacy in southeastern Kentucky through the ReadingCorps project.
