Heritage Community Initiatives is a nonprofit based in Braddock, Pennsylvania, serving families across forty communities in eastern Allegheny County. The organization operates Transportation, Education, and Nutrition programs, including a fixed-route transit service that has run for twenty years and delivered more than 1.5 million rides to residents in transit-isolated areas. Its education offerings comprise two curriculum-based programs for children from six weeks to fourteen years—the 4 Kids Early Learning Center and the Heritage Out of School Time program—both rated STAR 4 and affiliated with NAEYC, PACCA, and NAA, while Nutrition Services provide more than 100,000 meals annually. The organization serves at-risk children and families in its communities and operates with a relatively small staff, seeking to support access to transportation, early learning, and healthy meals. In February 2022, the Pittsburgh Food Bank partnered with Heritage to distribute 550 free rider cards at multiple Food Bank locations in eastern Allegheny County.
