The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) is a German research organization focused on understanding the mechanisms of infectious diseases and developing strategies to counter them. Its work spans from basic science to clinical application, with interdisciplinary teams aiming to translate findings into approaches that support public health. The institution is based in Braunschweig, in the Lower Saxony region of Germany. Its activities target researchers and healthcare institutions seeking evidence-based insights to prevent and treat infectious diseases, and to translate discoveries into clinical practice. In early 2024, HZI formed a collaboration with the Broad Institute to advance RNA-focused research, building on work by the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research in Würzburg on discovering interactions in specific regions of target RNA.
