The Hartford Symphony Orchestra is a professional symphony orchestra based in Hartford, Connecticut, employing 51-200 staff and located at 166 Capitol Avenue. It was founded in 1934 and formally established as the Symphony Society of Greater Hartford in 1936, with a history of leadership by multiple music directors, including Carolyn Kuan, named its tenth music director in 2011 as the first woman and youngest to hold the post. The organization presents more than 230 concerts each year across programs such as the Masterworks Series, Pops!, Sunday Serenades, Discovery Concerts, HSO: Intermix, Symphony in the Schools, Musical Dialogues, and the Talcott Mountain Music Festival.
