Harrisburg School District is the public education system serving the City of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, an urban, culturally diverse community in south-central Pennsylvania. It serves about 7,400 students and maintains a sizable staff, supported by a dedicated Human Resources Department that coordinates district personnel. Operating within the education administration field, the district provides public K-12 education and oversees district-wide programs to support students, families, and staff. Historically, the district has engaged with external partners to support students, including collaborations with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capitol Region and with Augustana University researchers studying learning loss tied to COVID-19. In 2025 the district launched a Summer meal Program and announced the appointment of a new Superintendent, effective July 1, 2025. The district is based in Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania, which serves as a regional hub for finance, transportation, and government in the south-central part of the state.
