The Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, based in Greensboro, North Carolina, is a mid-sized musical organization with roots dating back to the 1920s when musicians at Woman’s College (now UNCG) formed a group under Henry Fuchs. It formally organized as the Greensboro Orchestra in 1939 and evolved into an independent symphony known for critical acclaim. In 2003, Dmitry Sitkovetsky joined as Music Director; he has held positions including Principal Guest Conductor of the Russian State Symphony in Moscow and Conductor Laureate of the Ulster Orchestra. The orchestra offers a varied season featuring Masterworks, POPS, and Chamber performances, along with educational and outreach concerts. Educational programs serve more than 50,000 students each season, supported by the North Carolina Arts Council and the Greensboro Symphony Guild. In 2026, the organization announced that Lisa Crawford would step down from the role of President and CEO after a 27-year tenure.
