The Port of Marseille Fos is France’s leading port and the second-largest in the Mediterranean, functioning as a natural gateway to southern Europe. Located on the Mediterranean coast, the port supports a broad mix of freight activities, including hydrocarbons and bulk liquids, general cargo, and bulk solids. It spans a substantial area and provides the space and infrastructure required for maritime, logistics, and industrial operations, with warehouses near Fos container terminals and a range of industries such as refineries, steel, and chemicals; it also operates extensive ship-repair facilities, including the largest dry dock in the Mediterranean. The port comprises two harbours: the Eastern harbour in Marseille, spanning about 400 hectares, and the Western harbour in Fos, located roughly 70 kilometers away. It handles passenger and cruise traffic, with more than 2 million passengers traveling through the port each year, and has become France's leading cruise port in less than a decade. A notable recent development is a partnership with the Superyacht Eco Association SEA Index aimed at reducing the environmental impact of superyacht traffic at Marseille Fos.
