Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) operates as an international nonprofit hub that connects investigative reporters and nonprofit journalism organizations. Its mission is to strengthen investigative reporting worldwide, with particular attention to journalists from repressive regimes and marginalized communities. Founded in 2003 and based in Washington, DC, the network comprises 263 member groups across 97 countries, with staff based in more than 20 countries and work conducted in 12 languages. GIJN hosts the Global Investigative Journalism Conference every two years, a gathering that has drawn more than 8,000 journalists from 140 countries since 2001, and it awards the Global Shining Light Awards to recognize outstanding investigative reporting under threat. In addition to the conference, GIJN operates multilingual publishing and social feeds on 20 platforms in 12 languages, maintains a Resource Center used by journalists in 100 countries daily in 14 languages, and runs the Help Desk, which has responded to over 15,000 requests since 2012.
