Gameheads is a California-based nonprofit program in the computer games industry that uses video game design, development, and DevOps to cultivate diverse talent and new voices. It focuses on training youth to engage with the tech ecosystem and prepare them for college, careers, and civic life, aiming to broaden access to opportunities within game development. The organization serves a broad audience of young people, particularly from communities of color and low-income backgrounds, and seeks to address inequities in tech by providing structured learning experiences tied to real-world pathways in gaming and related fields. Based in Oakland, Gameheads has grown through partnerships and initiatives with major tech and gaming entities, including notable collaborations announced in recent years to expand opportunities for its participants. In addition to its core training, the program has hosted events such as student showcases and has engaged with industry partners to highlight its students’ work and broaden visibility within the gaming community.
