Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County operates the county's only emergency homeless shelter, with a maximum capacity of 36 residents and separate dormitories for single men and women, plus five family rooms. The organization is based at 211 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663, United States, and employs between 11 and 50 staff. Opened in October 2005, the shelter has provided over 100,000 bed nights to people experiencing homelessness in and around Tuscarawas County. It conducts intake assessments and connects residents with primary care providers, mental health professionals, counselors, parenting classes, housing assistance, and job skills training, and it partners with Kent State University Tuscarawas, Stark State College, and the Compass Center to offer on-site life skills groups focused on securing and maintaining housing and employment. In 2013, it opened Pathway to Wellness, the area’s first men's recovery house, housed in a separate facility with capacity for five men and focused on long-term recovery from substance use and addiction.
