Located on the eastern edge of the North Cascades, the Freestone Inn is situated in a prime location to begin outdoor aventures 15 miles west of the western-themed town of Winthrop. During the summer months, it hosts guests driving the famed Cascade Loop Scenic Byway and those hiking, climbing, biking, fishing or just simply relaxing in the mountain atmosphere. In the winter, the Freestone is truly the last lodging facility at the end of the road during the annual closure of the North Cascades highway, where visitors enjoy Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and general relaxation. Travel + Leisure Magazine has named the resort one of North America's Top 25 Lodges and dubs the experience "Splendid Isolation". The property boasts an excellent dining room featuring exceptional Northwest cuisine, focused on the fusion of classic French cooking techniques with world food traditions and the best available ingredients. Diners experience knowledgeable, attentive and warm service. The wine list focuses primarily on Washington wines, and offers tasting flights in addition to bottle service and a full bar. Examples of the menu items include locally-produced pan fried goat cheese with tomato ginger jam, grilled Ribeye steak with contempary accompaniments and Three Mushroom Chicken with white truffle oil. The knowledeable staff at the Freestone's activity center, Jack's Hut, help to ensure that all guests have an exhiliarting experience in the Methow Valley. Jack's Hut rents snowshoes and mountain bikes, sells great outdoor gear by Marmot, Columbia and KAVU, can make a cocktail, latte or a quick lunch, and also sells a hand-picked selection of local arts and crafts. Staff members are knowledgable about local trails and hikes, and can readily assist visitors with the activity that best suits their needs. They can also assist with activity arrangements outside of the resort such as a hot air ballon ride or a horseback excursion.
