The Francis Howell School District is a large public education system based in St. Charles, Missouri, serving a substantial geographic area in the southeast part of the county. It spans more than 150 square miles and operates ten elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools, plus three early childhood centers and two alternative education facilities. The district serves portions of several communities, including St. Charles, St. Peters, O’Fallon, and nearby towns, educating nearly 18,000 students with a sizable staff and a broad range of programs. Its roots go back to 1825, and through a series of mergers it evolved into the Francis Howell district by 1951, becoming one of Missouri’s largest districts. In 2026, the district announced leadership appointments, including a director of student services and a director of elementary education, along with new principals for Barnwell Middle School and Bryan Middle School for the 2026-27 school year.
