Fractionation Research, Inc. is a non-profit research consortium supported by memberships from major petroleum, chemical, and engineering companies. Founded in the 1950s to pursue research beyond the scope of any single organization, it operates a program that conducts commercial-scale distillation experiments on hydrocarbon systems across a wide pressure range, from deep vacuum to 500 psia. This work contributes to understanding distillation processes central to hydrocarbon processing and engineering practice. It is based in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The membership includes more than seventy companies, with many leaders in distillation, and more than sixty percent of members are international. In 2026, FRI announced that Bob Miller would assume the presidency on May 4, 2026.
