Insights

Growing Infrastructure Investment The Football Foundation has invested over £710 million in grassroots football facilities, including pitches and changing amenities, with recent activities expanding into new local projects such as PlayZones and pitch renovations. This presents opportunities to offer complementary sports equipment, maintenance services, or technology solutions to enhance facility management and player engagement.

Strategic Partnership Expansion Recent collaborations with local councils, schools, and organizations like Pitchbooking and YMCA Humber indicate an openness to partnerships that improve community sports infrastructure. Businesses providing digital booking software, maintenance technology, or community engagement platforms can find valuable sales opportunities in these evolving partnerships.

Focus on Community Impact The Foundation’s emphasis on transforming communities through targeted investments aligns with markets seeking social impact solutions. There is a potential to introduce products that support health and engagement initiatives, such as mobile apps for youth participation or health monitoring integrations to serve community-oriented programs.

Technological Adoption Utilization of advanced tech like data sharing platforms and PWA (Progressive Web Apps) suggests an openness to innovative digital solutions. Companies offering sport facility management tools, data analytics, or digital engagement platforms could leverage these trends to penetrate this sector further.

Financial Scale & Growth With revenue estimates between 500 million and 1 billion dollars and ongoing investment commitments, the Foundation demonstrates significant financial capacity and growth potential. This environment is conducive to large-scale sales of sports infrastructure equipment, maintenance services, or technology solutions aimed at scaling grassroots sports across the UK.

The Football Foundation is the charity of the Premier League, The FA and Government, through Sport England. We deliver outstanding grassroots football facilities, meaning more games, better games and more people playing - helping transform communities where demand is greatest and impact will be strongest.

Founded in 2000, we are now the largest sports charity in UK. So far, we have used the investment from our Partners to award more than 17,600 grants to improve facilities worth more than £710m – including 942 artificial grass pitches, 6,426 natural grass pitches and 1,200 changing facilities. This has attracted an additional £940m of partnership funding – totalling over £1.6bn investment in grassroots football. And there’s much more to come.

Through the Foundation, the Premier League, The FA and Government through Sport England have come together to create the National Football Facilities Strategy (NFFS) that will guide work over the next 10 years to transform many more local facilities. Local Football Facility Plans (LFFP) are being created to identify priority projects where demand is greatest, and the impact will be strongest and help stimulate the action required to deliver them.
