FOCUS Center for Autism is a grassroots, community-based nonprofit based in Canton, Connecticut, serving children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders. It began as an after-school program in 1996 and became a nonprofit in 2000 under the name FOCUS Alternative Learning Center, later expanding into a broader suite of educational and clinical services. The Fresh Start School is a private, special education program approved by the Connecticut State Department of Education. The organization operates a Residential Program started in 2007 for adolescents and young adults with ASD and a history of trauma, with a 2009 expansion to include morning hours and a Clinical Education Program. Together, these offerings address academic, social, and emotional development, complementing the center's after-school and community-based services. In February 2020, FOCUS Center for Autism announced a partnership with NextGen SmartyPants, LLC to offer a robotics class for teens and young adults with autism.
