FNMF, headquartered in Paris in the Île-de-France region, functions as a central body within France’s social economy and solidarity framework and represents around five hundred mutuals. Mutuals are non-profit, member-driven associations founded by individuals seeking collective protection, and they are led by elected mutualist activists. They work to safeguard the social protection of roughly 32 million French residents and promote broad access to health by operating in complementarity with the national Social Security system and contributing to the public health service. The federation is led by president Eric Chenut. Its activities cover three domains: complementary health insurance, provident and long-term care, and retirement savings. Together with more than 2900 mutual care and support services, they help sustain access to care across territories while keeping costs under control. They are the leading private actor in health prevention through actions deployed across the country. The organization centers its work on proximity, participation, and innovation to fulfill its mission of mutual protection today and building solidarity for tomorrow.
