The Firelands Symphony Orchestra is a small professional ensemble based in Huron, Ohio, with origins rooted in a community gathering that began as a concert in a downtown Sandusky church and grew into a full orchestra. It operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and now includes local musicians as well as students from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Oberlin Conservatory, with the Firelands Symphony Chorale serving as chorus-in-residence under Michael Shirtz.

The orchestra offers performances and community engagement that have drawn growing audiences, aided by collaborations and guest artists, and benefits from support from the Ohio Arts Council, a state agency funded by state tax dollars. In 2020 it named Tricia Applegate as executive director, signaling ongoing organizational development.
