FIAN International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the right to food, a mission it has pursued for about three decades. Headquartered in Heidelberg, in the Baden-Württemberg region of Germany, it operates through national sections and individual members in more than fifty countries and holds consultative status with the United Nations. The group works to document and challenge violations of the right to food and to oppose practices that prevent people from feeding themselves, with a particular focus on addressing gender discrimination and other forms of exclusion. A recent development highlights international collaboration, such as the May 2023 partnership in Uganda where FIAN Uganda joined with FIAN International and SwedBio to host a dialogue and capacity-building session on fisheries and the right to food and nutrition. It envisions a future in which hunger is eliminated and all people can claim their right to adequate food under international human rights instruments.
