The Federation for Internet Alerts (FIA) acts as a bridge among private sector entities, non-governmental organizations, and alerting authorities to promote all-hazards alerting for individuals worldwide. It uses internet advertising to display official child abduction alerts and tornado warnings in the United States to people in the affected areas. When authorities publish alerts in the Common Alerting Protocol, FIA can extend its messaging to cover other hazards and regions globally. To improve access to CAP alerts, FIA operates an Alert Hub hosted on the Amazon Cloud that is always on and provides fast, secure access to public alerts with options for immediate viewing or periodic delivery by subscription, while publishers can add alerts as well. Based in Chicago, Illinois, FIA works within the technology, information and internet sector and has pursued adtech partnerships, including a 2019 collaboration with MediaMath to replace online ads with alert creatives.
