The eSafety Commissioner, formed in 2015, functions as Australia’s independent regulator and educator focused on online safety. Its core aim is to promote safer and more constructive online experiences for Australians. The agency leads and coordinates online safety efforts across government departments, authorities, and agencies, and it engages with international stakeholders to extend its impact beyond national borders. The office is led by Commissioner Julie Inman Grant. In 2025, the organisation launched a self-assessment tool to help determine whether services fall under the relevant online safety laws.
