The Equitable Housing Institute (EHI) is the national organization dedicated to eliminating regulatory barriers to affordable housing. Those barriers (such as exclusionary zoning policies, impact fees, and subdivision restrictions on affordable housing developments) are among the principal culprits behind the nation’s persistent affordability problems. EHI is a section 501(c)(3) public charity which began operations in 2008. (Its original name was the Center for Social Welfare Under the American Constitutions (CSWAC).)
