Equine-Assisted Therapies of South Florida, Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in Coconut Creek, in the South Florida region, focused on therapeutic riding and related equine activities for children and adults with special needs. Founded in 1982 by the Soroptimist International of Boca Raton and the Kiwanis Club of Boca Raton, the program grew from a small community project to serving more than 100 individuals annually with a herd of 11 horses. The initiative aims to support physical, cognitive, and emotional development through interactions with horses, including the sense of walking created by the horse's three-dimensional movement for those with physical limitations. For participants with cognitive or mental challenges, the programming seeks to improve concentration, listening skills, and other life skills. The organization emphasizes offering an alternative to traditional clinical therapy, focusing on holistic well-being through the relationship between participants and horses.
