Environmental Charter Schools operates a network of free public schools in the South Los Angeles region, founded in 2001 and based in Redondo Beach, California. The network comprises Environmental Charter High School in Lawndale and Environmental Charter Middle Schools in Gardena and Inglewood, offering a high school and two middle schools that serve more than 1,000 students each year. Its mission is to reimagine public education in low-income communities of color to develop conscious, critical thinkers who are prepared to graduate from college and contribute to a more equitable and sustainable world. The student body comprises predominantly first- and second-generation immigrant youth, with a high share qualifying for free lunches. 98% of ECS high school graduates completed the coursework required to apply to a four-year college, and in 2015, 96% were admitted. In 2023, Environmental Charter Schools announced a partnership with Tower Cold Chain.
