Emerald People's Utility District is a public electric utility based in Eugene, Oregon. It traces its origins to 1983, when local citizens formed the district to improve reliability and lower rates for service in rural Lane County. Today, EPUD serves roughly 23,000 homes, businesses, and farms in that area, and residential rates are reported to be about 30% lower than its predecessor. The district operates within the utilities industry and is one of six People's Utility Districts delivering electricity in Oregon. It maintains a locally based workforce and provides service from its Eugene operations center. In October 2021, EPUD launched its first electric vehicle charging locations, marking an expansion of its infrastructure to support EV adoption.
