EFRAG is a private association established in 2001 in Brussels, Belgium, with a mandate that focuses on serving the public interest in financial and sustainability reporting. The organization operates through two main pillars: influencing European adoption of IFRS standards from a European perspective and endorsing amendments to IFRS Standards, alongside developing draft EU Sustainability Reporting Standards for the European Commission. Its Sustainability Reporting pillar advances draft EU standards and related amendments, while the Financial Reporting pillar provides technical input on IFRS standards as they relate to European capital markets. EFRAG collaborates with member organisations, European stakeholders, national bodies, and civil society to shape reporting requirements that affect a broad range of market participants. In 2022, EFRAG expanded its role under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, offering technical advice to the European Commission in the form of prepared draft standards and amendments. A recent focus includes work on sustainability reporting for non-EU groups and ongoing developments to support broader, cross-border reporting requirements.
